13 Ideas For A Fabulous Tween Birthday

One of my closest friends has two tweens who both have birthdays in the next month. We were talking about what she should do for them this year – a simple sleepover party with just a few kids or something out side of the home. Since this is Thursday, I am sharing our tween birthday party ideas with you as part of my Thursday Thirteen post (it’s the last one for the official site). Depending on where you live and what season it is, some ideas will make more sense than others.
All of the following are destination party ideas as opposed to themes for a home party (we’ll do that in the future). To maximize the fun and not blow your budget I would recommend limiting the number of guests to 3-5 (remember, even numbers work best).
- Go bowling – call ahead for group rates, flat rate specials and other promotions
- Take in a movie
- Have a swimming party or go to a waterpark (indoor or outdoor)
- Go snow tubing
- Mini-golf is always fun
- Go rockwall climbing (check your local gymnastics center – many of them have these now)
- Take in a sporting event – whether a college, semi-pro or pro team – they are all fun
- See a show at a community theater – some have matinée performances that include lunch
- Go ice skating or roller skating
- Got older tweens/teens who like to cook? Have a party at one of the make and take dinner establishments like Dream Dinners or similar.
- Have a cookout or picnic at a local state park or lake
- Visit a museum
- Have each guest bring cat or dog food in lieu of a gift and take a trip to your local animal shelter.
Let’s add to this list!! What other destination party ideas have you tried, liked, or thought of?

wow… those are great ideas. for my birthday, we are going to go lazer tagging. i have been twice and it is so much fun. After that we will go for pizza and after that home where i have a lot of really fun games planned!

those are all fun things to do & will surely entertain the guests! wish i know some1 who would invite me on one of those especially the rock wall climbing, nver tried that before!
Great ideas! I have a teenaged daughter but she likes to do small scale family stuff for her birthdays.
I’ve always heard a treasure hunt through the mall is fun for teen girls.
Jenny – rockwall climbing is so much fun. We have a huge wall at the gym I teach at and every weekend the rockwall birthday parties are booked!
Carrie – the treasure hunt through the mall sounds fun. I wish my kids wanted to do small scale family stuff for their birthdays. This past year my son had a party at home, but daughter 1 had hers at a pottery studio (guess I could have added that to the list) and daughter 2 had a gymnastics party at our gym.
Thursday Thirteen has come to an end.
I have enjoyed my visits here and consider us friends.
Thank you for sharing your thirteens with me.
The comments you left me filled me with glee.
It is hard to believe it is really true.
I am trying very hard to not be blue.
Happy TT’ing!

I think that mini-golf would be a great idea for a tween party!

Another great idea – go cart racing. My son and his friends would LOVE it!

Hey Im an 11 year old girl turning 12 in april and I have an amazing idea…How about a dance off bettween a bunch of friends…Think about it..Your kids will LOVE IT..

The one year..
My Kid had a tea party for her birthday.
They all had a lot of fun.
Maybe you could go have a tea party and then a sleepover or something.
Tween Scene Boutique in Santa Monica California gives new meaning to tween girl birthday parties. THey host and throw the greatest parties ever. Everything from runway fashion party, to makeover, to rock star for a day party. Very cool place with WIFI lounge, tons of stuff to look at and do , they will even host a simple movie and popcorn party. Very reasonable.
We did the mall scavenger hunt last year and then I let them all pick something out at Claires for $ 5.00. Then over to DQ for icecream cake and presents. The girls loved it. My 9 year old wants to do it for her 10th birthday now.
i am turning 12 and my birthday is in 8 days! i dont know what to do about it and i’ve done most of these! HELP!!!
original birthday themes not stupid ones who want to go to a animal shelter for there b-day
My daughter did a humane society party for her birthday. You don’t GO to the animal shelter (duh), you request items to donate, instead of getting a bunch of “stuff” that your kid doesn’t need. It’s called being charitable……..
a slumber party with just a few of your closest friends.play truth or dare.and just have fun.listen to music.make crazy music videos of you and your friends dancing and singing.its really fun.and party favors and some balloons are very inexpensive..:)
