Sciatica is the sign that there is something going on with your back. Unfortunately, many pregnant women do experience sciatica, an irritation of the sciatic nerve, which is a major nerve that runs from your lower back, down the buttocks and the back of the legs. This irritation can result in severe pain or a tingling sensation along the buttock and down into the leg.

Malton A. Schexneider, PT, MMSc, a clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy has written extensively about back pain. He has come up with two different types of exercises to help pregnant women with their sciatic problems. Of course, you should always check with your physician to be sure that there are no problems that would be made worse with certain types of exercise.

You can read about the exercises and see some photos at his website in these two posts: Back Pain Treatment: Sciatica… A Real Pain In The Butt! and Sciatica Leg Pain: Exercises For Sciatica.
