25 Great Foodie Gifts: #19 Slate Cheese Plate

This is an idea taken from The Rachael Ray Show

Go to your local home improvement center and purchase one slate tile.  They will be located in the kitchen area (for counter tops)  or the garden center (as stepping stones).  You want it big enough to fit about 4-5 different types of cheese.

Then go to the fabric/craft store and buy a piece of felt with adhesive on one side that measures the same as the back of the slate.  Place the felt on the back of the slate board.  Trim off any access.

Buy some chalk, ribbon, a couple of cheese knives, and a variety of cheeses.  The slate is used as a cheese plate and the chalk is used to write out the types of cheese that are on the plate.  You then have a unique and useful gift.

If you want to watch her make one go here to watch a video.

For some ideas on what types of cheese to buy go to this link from The Rachael Ray Show.   Her old boss was on and they have a video with some great information on getting the right cheese for a cheese plate.
