25th Use for Newspapers

After reading Simply Thrifty’s latest entry: 24 Uses for Newspapers, I couldn’t help adding just one more. Reading newspapers gives me heaps to write about.

I find the letters to the editor particularly good. Someone will write a provocative letter about a subject I either agree or disagree with. Some letters will really get me going. My first response is to write about it in my journal. Occasionally I might actually rewrite these rough thoughts into a letter back to the paper. Some of these also get published.

Most often the stories and news will simply bring me to journal on an issue I may not have thought about before, or certainly not that aspect of it.

Newspapers also have informative articles that might spur research, ideas, plots and endless variations on characterisation for stories and articles. While the newsprint isn’t always the best to glue into your journal, you can make a handwritten copy or a photocopy of the piece. A scrapbook is handy to just paste in the relevant info. Browsing through mine is a great source of inspiration for more than journal entries.
