4 Ways to Enjoy the 4th of July With Your Family

American flag1) Take the kids to the parade – Kids love parades. Even if you don’t like to face the crowds, try getting there a little bit early and pick out a good spot where you can see the parade coming for quite distance. What we usually do since we are in walking distance of the parade, is pull a wagon. I load the kids up in it, pack in some drinks and snacks, attach a little American flag off the back of the wagon and march off to the parade. Kids love it.

2) Dress the family in patriotic outfits – This applies to parents too. I know we have a bunch of white t-shirts that fit the kids with an American flag on it. If you don’t have one for yourself, then dress in red, white, and blue. Easy colors to find in any wardrobe. And the kids feel important and love the consistency. We are all in this thing together.

3) Grill up some burgers and hotdogs – There is nothing more American than grilling. Get out there and fire up the grill. Nothing fancy; just a few burgers; maybe some hotdogs. Don’t forget Pepsi or Coke to wash it down.

4) Fireworks/Play with lights – If you are a parent right into family safety and don’t like sparklers, then get the kids some of those glow sticks. They come in all shapes and sizes, kids can wear them as jewelry or toss them around while waiting for the fireworks display to start. Make sure to hit the local fireworks. Kids love it and so do adults. If you are having a good time then the kids will pick up on it fast. Get out and be safe. No road rage either. Nothing patriotic about that.
