5 Amazing Things About Sugar Gliders

There must be a rule that all marsupials, like the koala and kangaroo, are cute. Sugar gliders certainly deserve to be called cute too.

How much do you know about sugar gliders? I picked five things I thought might surprise some of you.

1. A joey (baby sugar glider) is born after only 16 days in gestation.

2. Born blind, deaf and weighing less than an ounce, a joey must climb unassisted into its mother’s pouch to continue growing and nursing.

3. Sugar gliders can live up to 15 years in captivity!

4. The second and third digits on the hind feet of sugar gliders are partially fused together to serve as a grooming comb.

5. Wild sugar gliders are brown, but will produce gray babies in captivity.
