5 Cholesterol Fighting Foods From MSN Health

MSN.com health brings us 5 foods that fight cholesterol. All of them can be great treats…with moderation.
Almonds: It says a small amount because if you didn’t know while nuts in general are good for you they can be high in calories. I could sit down with a can of almonds and eat every one of them if I didn’t know better. Also stick with dry roasted nuts and stay away from nuts that are roasted in oil.
Oatmeal should come as no surprise. They have been saying that for years. “The soluble fiber binds to the bile acids that are the precursor to the development of cholesterol and help flush it out,”.
Fish, another no brainer. Omega 3 fatty acids. Google it.
Red Wine. Red wine contains Flavanols which have anti-inflammatory properties that help to lower cholesterol and fight heart disease. Once again, moderation.
Soy. Soy products don’t really help fight or break down cholesterol, but they are a healthy alternative and keep new cholesterol from forming.

Almonds: agreed. But, it’s best to eat in nut butter form.
Oatmeal: excellent. Oatbran or oatmeal, or, preferably, have a balance of the two.
Fish: vegan here, so I cannot recommend.
Red Wine: agreed.
Soy: excellent choice. Tempeh, tofu, or soymilk. Textured soy and roasted, salted soybeans are better than nothing, but not by much.
A very healthy list overall. :O)

Thanks Paul.
I always have moderation issues with Almonds and Red Wine.
One Problem I have found with some dry roasted Almonds are the fact that they can be loaded with MSG, which isn’t good for you in the first place and can give you major heart burn.
Understandable. :O)
It is easy to dowse a bottle of wine and a can of roasted almonds on a friday night without much effort. Splendid vices should never be eliminated completely.
Ah, as for almond butter, ShopRite, Pathmark and Stop and Shop all carry it!
Easy to acquire now since the organic/atkins/wholesome resonation has penetrated the furthest reaches of the centrist universe. Combine with unsweetened apple sauce and eat with pretzels. You will like. ;O)
Just keep drafting your favorite new dietary practices over your established ones, over and over, sort of like riding a circuit and continually ,ever-so-slightly adjusting your finely tuned route with each lap: fluidly, in motion.
