5 Feet High and Not Rising

Shorter women may have very long lives, according to a new study by researchers from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
With apologies to all my friends who not “vertically challenged,” all 5 feet of me reads this headline and says, “Guess I’ll never complain about climbing on the bottom shelf to reach for the jar on the top one again!”
(After all, I can soon just ask Charlie—all 5 plus feet of him—to get it for me.)

I am also 5 feet and always request to “borrow” people’s height when I can’t reach something!
I tower over you at 5′2″! LOL — both of my boys are very tall so I am hoping I’ll have some help with jars up high before too long.
I am the tallest at 5′5″
We often wonder just how tall M will be. Her birth mother is very tall and birth father is very short. Time will tell.
I’m 5′5 1/2″. I win! I’m considered very tall in my adoptive family. My dad is my height, my mom is 4′11″. Extended family is all short except for my brother who is 5′9″.
Years ago, they calculated your adult height by doubling your height at 2 years old. They predicted I would be 5′8″. I abruptly stopped growing at 11 though. Too much chocolate, caffeine and not enough milk.
I’m 6′5″ but sometimes wish I was 5′6″, especially when I need something on the bottom shelf.
I think I tie with KimJ
.
My girls both gave hints of being destined to be tall girls–that age 2 x 2 thing, steep growth curves, large hands, very long feet…and dad has to shop in the extra-tall section.
Alas, the older has topped out just a smidge taller than me and my mom, crushing her supermodel dreams, and Eleanor is going through puberty early, so it seems that she will also end up about 5′5″. But they still have very long feet :-/.
No lady in the family tree has made it older than 75, but all the 6′5″+ guys on hubby’s side have all lived to 90+.
My mother’s mother lived to 100 and she was normal height, I think maybe 5′ 5″. My mom is about 5′ 6″ and doing really well at 85ish except for arthritis type problems, she looks more like 70. My dad was 6′2″ I think… My siblings and I are all tall. I’m the shortest and I’m 5′10″. I used to dream about being 5′7″ It’s hard to stand out for being socially inept, and then stand out for being too tall for the teen standard. On the other hand I don’t make such a great target for some bullies now because I look intimidating when I stand up.
In 2″ heels I’m 6 feet tall.
my mom was 4′ 7″ (she died in her early 30s from breast cancer) and I’m just shy of 5 foot. I’m hoping to live a long life! I have never had an issue with my height, but it sure feels funny having an 8 year old who comes up to my chin!
That might explain my very short, very long-lived great-grandmother.
My mom is under 4′ 11″ now and going strong; her mom was shorter than her and died at 40, suddenly (I’ve been thinking about this a lot, as I turn 40 this year). My grandmother—my dad’s mom, Ngin-Ngin, has a couple inches over me, and is now 102 1/2 (to be precise).
@ange,
and now I’ve a 10 1/2 year old looking me in the eye!
@CS,
I’m feeling grateful for being able to reach those low-placed items.
@Ms. Clark,
6 feet tall in 2 inch heels…..
I always wear flats; never feel right in heels.
