5 new places for you to visit

I found some interesting places for you to visit; I hope you can use them.

  1. Chronic Pain Lifestyle is a blog that isn’t updated very often but it’s very well written. You should read Anne’s post on childhood, Catching Childhood. It’s a good read.
  2. I have to admit, the name of this blog took me aback for a moment, but it did its job in luring me to check it out. The Gimp Parade is written by Kay Olson. This particular post, Hiya gawkers!, stood out for me. When I worked as head nurse at a camp for physically disabled children, my husband – who had no experience with seeing how others see those with physical disabilities – got an eyeful. He took a liking to one camper, P, who had cerebral palsy. P was 19. My husband invited him out for a beer at a local bar (legal drinking age is 18 in Quebec). He (my husband) was shocked at the stares the P got. Yes, P had to use a straw for his beer, yes, his laugh could be quite loud and out of the ordinary for someone who has never heard it before, and yes, his electric wheelchair took up a lot of space as they tried to maneuver to a table. But P was also very articulate, intelligent, and fun. Too bad those who stared at him will likely never know that.
  3. Action on Pain is a UK-based site for people with chronic pain. They have information such as assessment tools and plans for flare-ups. Interesting information.
  4. The Professional Patient is an interesting “Guide to managing illness and insurance in the USA. Tips for dealing with doctors, working with your insurance, saving money on meds, coping with chronic illness, etc. From a 30-something Marfan Syndrome and Sjogren’s Syndrome patient,” according to the bio.
  5. FDA product page: The FDA site is great for information and covers: New drug approvals, drug information, drug safety and side effects, clinical trials information, and more.

Don’t forget the poetry book give-away: Poetry to ease the pain? (and a poetry book give-away). It ends June 19th.
