I know from experience that one of the setbacks for many people who need to lose weight is not having the inner motivation. It’s not easy trying to lose weight if you aren’t motivated. In fact, I’m going to step out on a limb here and say that it will probably be impossible to drop the pounds if you aren’t motivated.

I struggle with that motivation myself. It doesn’t come easy for me. I have to have a lot of pep talks with myself. (Sometimes they work; sometimes they don’t.)

Why You Need To Lose Weight

If you can’t seem to get started chipping away at your weight loss goals, maybe it’s because you lack the motivation you need to get a jump-start. Here are some reasons to lose weight. Maybe something here will help you find the motivation you need to get started today.

1. Your lifespan depends on you being healthy. Obesity is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Being overweight brings mammoth health problems. From cancer to diabetes and heart attacks, obesity is at the root of many health issues leading to untimely deaths in America. If you want to be around to see your children become adults and have children of their own, it’s time to get healthy. Don’t die an early death just because you loved food more than you loved yourself or your family.

2. You won’t get winded just from walking across a room. One of the most common problems for people who are overweight is lack of oxygen. Many people who are obese tend to become even more sedentary than they previously were because they get out of breath by doing something as simple as walking from one room to another. Shedding excess weight will enable you to breathe easier.

3. You won’t be afraid to look at yourself in a full-length mirror anymore. I speak from personal experience on this one. I reached a point where I didn’t want a full-length mirror in my house. I hated the way I felt, so I didn’t even want to look at myself anymore. For several years, I only had a small mirror in the bathroom. And believe it or not, I didn’t realize just how much weight I was putting on during the period of time. I ate without abandon. The first time I saw myself in a full-length mirror again, I was shocked at what I saw. In fact, I didn’t even see me anymore. I went and bought myself a full-length mirror very soon after that. Getting health and losing weight will make it not-so-scary to look at yourself in the mirror again.

4. You’ll have fun shopping for clothes again. I know if any of you are like me, you probably have dreaded clothes shopping. In fact, if you’re even more like me, you’ve probably been wearing the same “fat” clothes for a while because it’s easier throwing on an old T-shirt and jeans than shopping. It’s depressing when you walk into a clothing shop and have to walk to the Plus Size department, when it wasn’t all that long ago when you shopped in the “regular” department. Right? Just think of all those cute clothes you’ll be able to shop for and try on again once you shed all those unnecessary pounds!

5. You’ll feel great about yourself again. What’s better than looking good? Feeling great! After you get rid of all that weight, you won’t just look good, but you’ll feel so much better about yourself again. You’ll feel confident and content with who you are. You’ll love yourself again. You’ll enjoy life again and live your life to its fullest. You’ll be able to do a lot of things you can’t do right now.

Nobody said losing weight is easy. It’s hard. It’s downright depressing sometimes. But if I can do it, so can you. So find your motivation, set yourself some baby-step goals, and get started on your weight loss journey today.
