A piece that I wrote for Gaiam Life has finally gone live and I thought I’d share a link to the piece with you all here because it’s all about caring for someone with cancer.

If you’ve not heard of Gaiam Life … let me explain real quick. From their site: “Gaiam (pronounced “guy-um”) was founded on the concept of making decisions based on personal values that consider all aspects of our lives, as well as our impact on others and the planet, today and in the future. I wholeheartedly agree with that premise … do you?

The article, 6 Best Ways to Support a Loved One Who Has Cancer, shares just that: tips to help you be a caregiver when/if someone you love is diagnosed with cancer.

In the article, I offer tips like Help your loved one get the best treatment and Take care of yourself, too. Another tip is Be Truly Present; here’s an actual taste of what that section is about:

“The major difficulty we find with loved ones and friends and family is that they don’t know what to say to people,” says Dr. Barrie Cassileth, chief of the Integrative Cancer Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. “The answer to that is you don’t have to worry about what to say; you just have to be there to listen and care.”

If you head over to the piece, especially if you are or have been a caregiver, come back and let me know what you think of the piece — and the site — feedback is critical to feed the soul of a freelance writer!

Also, Gaiam Life recently published an article on What Type of Reusable Water Bottle is Best? Get the facts on reusable plastic, metal and single-use water bottles; that’s a hot topic this year so I thought you might be interested in seeing what they have to say about it!

As always, chime in on the topic here in the comments section. How do you feel about water bottles these days?

I just want to take a moment to encourage everyone to read Karen’s article on Gaiam Life website. It’s insightful and poignant. I was moved to tears by how simple every day sorts of things can make such a tremendous difference to a person’s state of mind.

Karen, I wish this article would have been written years ago before my mother passed. It would have been such a tremendous help [to me] to have this information to give to my siblings who were very “uncomfortable” being near my mother while she was sick with BC. Well anyway, from my heart I say “THANK YOU”!

From Karen Lynch: Mary, your feedback on this one is amazing. Thank you so much. I hope that the piece has reached someone else just in time.
