7 Tips for Potential Stay at Home Dads Provided by Dadventure

Sometimes I spend time in the evening browsing through the archives of other dad blogs. If you look around and spend some time reading through older posts you can find some real good content. Well I did just that over at Dadventure. Some of the posts really hit home for me and I found that some of my older posts are quite similar.

Dadventure, back in October, gave 7 tips for potential Stay at Home Dads. It sort of reminds me of my own attempt at educating those who are seeking out the position. I have 2 articles called 5 Things I Learned Since Staying Home With My Kids and the Top 5 Hardest Things to Deal With as a Stay at Home Dad.

Even though Dadventure and I have similar suggestions and epiphanies, there are some things in his list that are unique, and rightly so, as each situation varies.

So the 7 tips he covers are:

1) Lower Expectations
2) Let Dirty Dishes Lie
3) Routine, Routine, Routine
4) Plan Events for Outside the House
5) Build a Support System
6) Feed Me!
7) Slow Down and Live in the Moment

I’ve done well with all of those, except #5. No support system for us. Grandparents have been miserably disappointing. Friends have let us down. We’ve learned to just get by on our own, although the lack of outside support has taken its toll in some ways.
