9 Gifts for Mom She Won’t Have to Dust

What do Mom’s really want for Mother’s Day? Me, just a few hugs will do and some time in my garden to plant some spring flowers, but most of all, I don’t want anything I’ll have to dust. Here are some quick, clutter free gifts for Mom:

  • Go to a local nursery and pick up all the annuals for Mom’s flower garden. Equip her with some fun new gardening gloves and some help moving dirt and let her enjoy her morning in the garden. (This has been our tradition for the past 10+ years as you can tell from my photo above)
  • Treat Mom to a movie night out (don’t forget to book the babysitter if needed) or for movie nights in, try a Netflix.com subscription. Dress up the gift with some packets of microwave popcorn and theater size candy and you have a fun gift for Mom.
  • Tickets to her favorite sporting event are always a hit (don’t tell me Moms don’t love sports, too). I totally loved going to see the Pittsburgh Penguins play this winter and a good friend of mine is very excited about going with the whole family to the ball game on Sunday.
  • Tickets for an upcoming concert, show, or similar event – do your research and this can be a very appreciated gift!
  • Take her on a field trip to the zoo, her favorite museum or a local festival.
  • Gift certificate for a local car wash (I love this one!!).
  • Gift certificate for house cleaning. You can also make your own coupons and give your own cleaning services – especially for Grandma or an older Anut who would love the extra help and the company.
  • Treat Mom and her bestfriend to a spa facial, manicure or pedicure.
  • Indulge in a hobby – spring for golf lessons, sign Mom and Dad up for ballroom dance lessons, or a pottery class. This make take some research, but Mom will certainly know you care.

Remember, Mom’s don’t need STUFF. They just want a little extra love and pampering on Mother’s Day, just so they know you care.

What are your Mother’s Day traditions? I’m looking forward to spending my morning in my garden and the afternoon with my brothers and family spoiling our Mom.

  1. Great ideas, Char! Your cats look like they are patiently waiting.

Here’s something you don’t have to dust:

For mothers day I want 12 weeks paid family leave. Go to http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1768/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=24483 to find out how to make it happen.

They also have fantastic t-shirts at their Zazzle store that say cool stuff like Changing More than Diapers. http://www.zazzle.com/momsrising

    Don’t have to dust a t-shirt either.

I like to have my Mom over and serve a fancy brunch on my pretty china. A nice restaurant brunch is pretty costly (and she passes on the Mimosa, the crazy women!) I try to have something different like a quiche or grilled salmon she seems to love the special attention, and she deserves it – she taught me all I know about sewing!
