A crappy side effect of anorexia and bulimia

It’s something not every blogger wants to discuss, but I’m ready to tackle it:

s*&t.

Specifically, the inability to do this action.

When you don’t eat (or eat at strange times), your body loses its natural rhythm.  After a while, elimination becomes sporadic or difficult.

I still deal with strange body function issues YEARS after having an active eating disorder (yes, yes, I know this is TMI.)

All I can say is BE CAREFUL.  Laxatives may seem appealing, but they can destroy your ability to naturally go to the bathroom.  And starvation (especially if you withhold liquids) can also lead to bowel problems.

It’s kind of a funny subject area, but the results aren’t laughable.

(On a side note, in my mid-20s I went to a physician who told me that I had irritable bowel syndrome, something I attribute to having been anorexic.  I heard her laughing about my problem with a nurse in the hallway after the diagnosis.  Huh.  Guess even doctors find the topic of crap to be worth a chuckle.)
