A Cultural Look; Just Us Books Gives Away Three
When Just Us Books contacted us for this particular giveaway they were excited to be able to offer a variety of books that reflect different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. I find that all too often mainstream retail markets forget that there are other cultures in the United States and it does need to be addressed in the book stores and classrooms.
That said, we are proud to bring you three books from Just Us Books (who is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year!).
Many Colors of Mother Goose
adapted by Cheryl Willis Hudson
illustrations by Ken Brown, Mark Corcoran and Cathy Johnson
ages 3-7
This unique picture book offers a contemporary and multicultural spin on classic nursery rhymes.
Jamal’s Busy Day
by Wade Hudson
illustrated by George Ford
ages 3-7
Jamal is a happy youngster who knows just how important his school day is. It is just as important as his mother’s and father’s work day. And just like his parents, Jamal has an important job to do.”The upbeat message is that both parents and child can work hard and accomplish much…all work has value.” School Library Journal.
Just an Overnight Guest
by Eleanora E. Tate

When Ethel’s mother goes away, Margie Carson’s mom decides to let Ethel stay with them, just for one night. But one night turns into many and Margie doesn’t know what to do. Margie thinks Ethel is trying to steal her parents’ attention and she’s had it!

I work with internationals, so this is a value that I really want to pass on to my children. I would be very excited to add these to our home library for my two preschool boys.
I am going to check out the company website! Thank you for sharing this valuable resource!
this would be great for my classroom library.
I would read the books with my daughter. It’s important to me to expose her to different cultures.
Awesome! My son is biracial and we have very few books that have characters of different backgrounds. Thanks so much!
Hi, I adore these books! The theme of multi-cultures is an extremely important one and is a lesson that will be more understood if started young! I am glad to see this genre of book becoming more and more popular. I believe cultures should keep their values and traditions. Different cultures make the world a richer place to be in. I have two sons and a niece and nephew who would benefit from these delightful books! Then, they would be given to the local school or library. Please enter my name in your drawing. It is appreciated! Thanks, Cindi
My sons have 3 biracial cousins. They could also read and utilize these books.
Multiculturalism and tolerance for different viewpoints is very important to us. We live in Palo Alto, CA, which attracts people from all over the world. I am Filipino with Spanish heritage and my husband is English. We grew up in two very different cultures and are raising our kids in a third. So we always try to look for any books that showcase these values.
Thank you for featuring such a wonderful giveaway and for the chance to receive these great books.
Hi, I would share these books with my two little boys. Where we live in Tennessee the population is 97% Caucasian. I grew up in a much more diverse area, and I want to share with my sons different cultures and races. Just because a person may not look like you or speak like you does not make them necessarily all that different. Everyone likes books!
It’s very important to me to have books that show people/kids of every type. I like music that is diverse also. My daughter’s favorite books reflect different cultures and her very favorite is called “People” by Peter Spier. It has just about every kind of person imaginable. These would be a well-loved and well-used addition to our library. Thanks for the chance.
I would enjoy reading all of these books with my son. Thank you for the opportunity to win these.
