A Daily Habit

One really good reason to keep a journal as a writer is to establish the habit of writing every day. It matters little what you write. When keeping a writing journal you can write about anything. Whatever you write will one day become useful, even if it’s just because you wrote every day.

No one gets up one morning and runs a marathon. Not unless they’ve made a habit of including running and general fitness into the regular routine of their day. Okay, some among us might come exhausted to the finish line, just like some may sit down and write in what seems an effortless way. But the best runners are those who run daily. The best writers are the ones who write daily.

By spending time in your journal you’re exercising your writing muscles. You are also prioritising your writing, finding room for it in your busy day. That act alone will serve you well as a writer. When a challenge comes your way you will manage to fulfill the demand. And all because you have at least one good habit in your life; you write.
