A Doctor Speaks Out on Fibromyalgia

This has to be one of the most meaningful pieces I have seen written by a physician in quite some time. This physician specializes in fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. And he thinks doctors need to listen and care about their patients. How novel!!
Doctor, let your fibromyalgia patients have one day of the year, where you will not be rude to them, where you will take some time for them and really listen to their complaints of pain, fatigue and sleep disturbance—only this time, like you really mean it.

What makes you think their not polite with their patients ?
Substance Abuse Treatment,
thanks for commenting. These are not my words, since the blog had a different writer back then.
But, I believe that many patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia (or many other chronic illnesses) experience a great deal of frustration, as they feel that the doctor who over sees their health care does not really listen to them, or even believe that there may be a problem.
While I have a great health care team, who takes excellent care of me. I do realize that I am in the extreme minority. Sometimes, I believe that its my attitude towards the whole CFS thing, that allows them to do good by me. I really do believe that doctors get just as frustrated by their patients, as patients are with their doctors…and for exactly the same reasons.
Patients don’t always listen to their doctors, as they are too busy complaining about symptoms. In my experience, the best way to be taken seriously by your doctor, is to have someone else come in on your consult.
