A Foodie’s New Year’s Resolution

As each New Year rolls around I think about what my resolutions should be and 2008 is no exception. I have several goals for the year, such as being organized, controlling my spending habits, reading daily and taking better care of myself. I think these my be sadly reminesent of years gone by.
I have a few New Year’s resolutions directly related to food as well. I want to plan my menus better and get my children to help me cook, bake and hopefully having fun.
A couple of these goals are related to an addiction I have realized I can’t ignore any longer. Overeating? Alcohol? No, it is time to admit that I am addicted to downloading recipes.
As you see above, I have a problem. I download and print recipe after recipe. I can’t control it. I have this need to make sure I have that recipe to add to my…pile. I read and watch a lot of food shows and articles. So many of them look and sound incredible. I plan on printing the recipe and actually trying it, but I am sadly very unorganized, have probably more than one copy of several recipes and have only tried about a fourth of them.
My resolution is to go through this pile, weed it out, organize it and actually use them. I love cookbooks as well and tend to purchase a lot of them. Again, I am bad about getting into a food rut and haven’t tried many of the recipes I sit and drool over. I am vowing to organize my recipes and cook something new at least each once a week.
I have purchased my notebooks and have made a game plan (I decided to organize it by sides, main, desserts, etc…) and now I have to do it. Oh, and resist the urge to be like 90% of the population and forget about my resolutions by January 31.
So, do you have any resolutions for 2008?

Aaahhhh…as much as feel for your situation, I must admit I am relieved because I share your affliction for downloading recipes and stacking them in piles around the counters, in drawers, messily stuffed into notebooks. Then I curse myself when I cannot find a recipe in the cyclone of stacks. I think my pile may be a slight bit taller than yours as well…hopefully that soothes your soul.
I’ve tried to organize in three notebooks as well (main/sides, breads/appitizers, desserts) but alas my organizational skills must be lacking because the cyclone of papers always returns. Let me know if you perfect a system…I need all the help I can get!
If I figure out something that works I will let the world know. It’s nice to know that, alas, I am not alone.
