Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will discuss his own struggle with diabetes and his work to change his state’s approach to healthcare on CNBC’s dLifeTV, the first and only national weekly television series devoted entirely to diabetes. The program will air this Sunday, January 21 at 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific.
“I did this to myself,” says Gov. Huckabee. “It is my own stupid fault.”
After his diagnosis with type 2 diabetes, Huckabee lost over 110 pounds and set out to make the same healthy changes to the citizens of his state, up to 10% of whom may have the disease and not even know it.
The Governor established a program called “Healthy Arkansas”, partnering with schools and businesses to create plans to better educate students and employees on healthy lifestyle choices. This program led to an actual decline in the state’s level of obesity in children.
“Governor Huckabee is a diabetes role model, when few role models exist in government,” said dLife founder Howard Steinberg. “If Arkansas can do it, so can every state and every school system in the country.”
