A little peace

Over at Babylune, Eliza was talking about taking a bath in peace and how much privacy we lose when we have kids.

For me, I think I started losing privacy the second I was in labor with my first and I still haven’t found it. My privacy disappeared as doctors and nurses looked inside places even I haven’t seen, and these days I feel like I have to orchestrate some sort of strategy akin to war planning just to be able to sit on the toilet without anyone asking me to read a book or to let them flush the toilet when I’m done.

There are several privacy moments that I miss. That’s the foremost. I’m not an open-door bathroom person and neither is my husband. I know some couples are perfectly comfortable with the bathroom being open regardless of what’s going on in there, but that’s just not us. It took a lot of getting used to, this whole idea of little people running around the bathroom while I’m trying to do whatever it is I need to do in there.

Nowadays, I can usually manage to get in there about half the time on my own, although I often have to leave the bathroom door open (but only if my husband is out). If I’m not alone, then I can usually close the door, lock it even, and be all alone. I still sometimes get questions or knocks on the door but at least there’s no audience.
