A mom sticks up for dads
Sherry over at Inside Motherhood posted quite an interesting list of her pet peeves about how society portrays dads. Not quite what I expected from a motherhood blog, but right on! She makes some great points as these things make me mad, as well.
Peeve number 1, dads are portrayed as inept.
How many commercials or movies or TV plots revolve around a father who is just completely stupid when it comes to kids? The man may be a CEO of a major corporation or able to argue intense cases in court, or perhaps he can assemble a museum’s dinosaur skeleton in under ten minutes. However, flash to him being at home where his wife asks him to change the baby’s diaper – all of a sudden, the man is all thumbs, totally incapable of figuring out how the little tabs work, how to use a wipe, or just not realizing that you can’t walk off and leave a baby on a changing table.
Definitely worth a read.

hanks for this. I just wrote on this same topic in my blog. I get angry at the expectation that fathers are inept or reluctant to care for their babies.
It is quite frustrating. It’s the same pervasive attitude that you see in almost every television commercial; the father is portrayed as an idiot whose sole, adequate function in life is the ability to order a pizza.
