a sun bucket

I know that light boxes are the way to combat SAD, and that they can actually be quite effective. However, a new way to bring sunshine into your house has just been discovered. I am not entirely sure what the capabilities are on this yet…but I am sure with some improvements, it might be worth checking into - as a greener way to get some energy.

Stefano Merlo has invented an energy bucket. According to Inhabitat, this is what Merlo’s energy bucket is about,

the Energy Bucket is simply just a plastic bucket that houses 1kw LED lights which are powered by the photovoltaic solar panels installed on the lid of the bucket. Needless to say, he took something as mundane as a bucket and turned it into an opportunity for people to realize that there are simple solutions to big problems.

I am thinking that 1kw LED lights is wrong….that seems just way too high. Perhaps, its supposed to be 1 or 2 w LED lights- I think that is a little more realistic. While at this rate, it won’t be enough to power a night light, improvements can happen at a really fast rate, and I will be watching how this develops.

If you want to see more of Stephano Merlo’s designs, then check out his website. You will find some really cool stuff.
