A Reading Heritage From My Grandparents

Sunday we celebrate Grandparents Day. In honor of this occasion, the Lifestyles Channel bloggers are writing tributes to grandparents.
To my grandparents, on both my dad and mom’s sides of the family, I owe my love of reading. All of them read and collected books. Both couples were farmers, but enjoyed reading. My parents inherited this love of reading, too.
My mom and her mother were school teachers. Her father was a writer and preacher, as well as a reader and farmer. I still have books in which they had written their names. My dad’s mother enjoyed letter writing, genealogy, and reading. I also have books from my own childhood that I can share with my grandchildren.
Do you have a reading and/or writing heritage from your grandparents, who instilled a love of reading into their descendants? Share with us.

My much older sister used to read a lot to me. We shared a bedroom until I was 10 years old! She read a story to me almost every night before bed. Also, both of my parents would read the daily paper from front to back. Magazine were big in our home when I was growing up. My husband and I are hopefully instilling the love of reading in our sons! Thanks, Cindi
My grandmother was from Ukraine. She was a great story teller. I think she instilled creativity with her fanciful stories.
Story reading times in families are to be treasured and help instill the love of reading. Perhaps my Mom’s reading to us at bedtime helped further this in me.
Thanks, Cindi and CanCan, for visiting One Book Two Book and sharing with us.
