A Scrapbook Album About Yourself

In September 2004, my scrapbook idol ‘Becky Higgins’ was invited to hold scrapbook workshops in New Zealand by a local scrapbook store. Of course, I was one of the hundreds of scrapbook enthusiasts who came to see her.

Becky Higgins is the Creative Editor of Creating Keepsakes Magazine and has published several books on scrapbooking. I found out about her through my good friend, Gem Burce. I love Becky Higgins because of her simple, classic approach and style to her layouts. I like the way she could incorporate 7-10 photos in a 12×12 double layout without looking too overcrowded.At the workshop, she made us do a 6×6 album about ourselves. According to Becky, most scrapbookers make layouts for their loved ones especially their spouse and kids but nothing about themselves. The session we had that cold September evening was to do an album about “Loves of My Life”. The photo above shows the first of the 11 sample pages that we did.

The loves of your life could range from the people closest to your heart (i.e. your spouse, kids, parents, etc), your favourite: hobby, sport, time of the day, room or corner in the house, holiday destination, shopping place, expression, food, colour — anything that defines YOU. This album is about YOU.

What I can suggest is that for each of your “loves” — journal what you love about it, what it makes you feel, why you love a particular person, thing or place in the opposite page. In total, you will have 21 pages in your album (1 page for the cover and 10 double layouts).

Materials used:
Black and red cardstock (any brand)
American Crafts patterned papers
Alphabet stickers
Label holder
Silver string
