A Simple Raspberry Sauce

We have both red and black raspberries in the fence row by our house, but we don’t have enough of either to make a pie or cobbler. Over the last two days I picked about a cup to a cup and a half of the little raspberries (that doesn’t count the ones I ate while I was picking, and the berries that were snitched from the container when I brought them in the house).
My husband said raspberries and ice cream sounded good, so I decided I’d make a simple raspberry sauce out of the raspberries and a little sugar.

Raspberry Sauce With Ice Cream and Shortbread (c) L Gerlach
I took the cup or so of raspberries and combined them with 1/4 cup of cane sugar, then I used a potato masher to mash the two together. It made a wonderful syrup to pour over ice cream. It would also be great over pancakes for breakfast.
I topped the ice cream and raspberry sauce with one of the rosemary shortbread cookies I made earlier and it made a wonderful dessert.
