Are you going somewhere this fourth of July? It’s the biggest holiday in the US and that means lots of time in the family car on long road trips! While many things can happen on a family road trip, healthy eating usually isn’t one of them…. well, until now.
SUBWAY created its restaurant locator (http://www.subway.com/Applications/locator/index.aspx) where you can spot various SUBWAY locations along your route so you don’t end up eating less-healthy greasy burgers or gas station food. And the restaurant locator is world-wide so wherever you go, you’ll find some SUBWAY restaurants to choose healthy foods from!
And, in the spirit of road trips, SUBWAY teamed up with National Geographic for the “Taste for Adventure” sweepstakes. Starting July 1, kids age 6-14 can tell about their most exciting journey (past, present or future dream adventure) in 100 words or less, for a chance to win an unforgettable Alaskan Family Adventure! Kids can enter online at kids.nationalgeographic.com (beginning July 1) or www.Subwaykids.com (beginning July 6) OR in-store!
So to start the ball rolling, SUBWAY sponsored a give-away at Genetics and Health! One winner will get the chance to win a SUBWAY car kit*! The kits will include: an insulated lunch tote for healthy snacks, a $10 SUBWAY gift card, car games, etc. (approximate value = $35-40).

Check out the contest rules after the cut…
For a chance to win a SUBWAY car kit*, briefly share in the comments your most recent family road trip!
- One entry per person per day.
- It’s open to residents of the US only.
- Contest ends 11:59 midnight EST on July 14, 2009 (Tuesday)
- One winner will be randomly chosen and announced via blog and email the week after.
- If the winner does not reply within 3 days, he/she forfeits her winnings and an alternate entry will be chosen.
- REMINDER #1 : In previous contests, I have had several winners forfeited for failure to reply to my emails. Please make sure your settings don’t put my email into the junk folder, otherwise you’ll have no idea you won. Better yet, please check this blog for the winners’ list after the contest ends. Best bet, come back often and stay a reader!
Have fun and stay safe this summer!
*NOTE: Colors and exact games/accessories of the SUBWAY car kit may vary but each kit is valued at approximately $40 including the SUBWAY gift card”

Our most recent trip was over the holidays. We went to Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee and Cherokee, NC.
Most of our road trips involve moving with the military. They can get kind of long, especially when you drive from Maine to California, but they also give you such a great appreciatation for the beauty of our country.

We drove to Santa Cruz, walked the boardwalk and went on the ferris wheel before we took a long walk down the beach. Felt like kids again, it was nice. Thanks for the giveaway!
It has been so long since we took a road trip. I guess it would have to be to Cedar Point in Ohio. I can’t think of anything particularly memorable about any of our trips there except being stuck in traffic. It took twice as long to get there! I wish I had a better road trip experience but I cannot think of anything right now.
Our most recent family car trip was a long time ago. We drove to San Fransisco to visit my family about 3 years ago. Car trips are just so stressful!
We drove to San Diego. It was a long drive, but worth it. We had a great time.
The St. Louis zoo was pretty cool. They say it’s free but you pay to park whereas at others parking is free but they charge admission. It just sounds better.
we drove to our local beach…and they have a game where you spot road signs along the way and mark it in a book…it’s fun, but gets old fast…this is great!
We went to the grand canyon last year. It was great.
We went over 70 miles to the zoo and had fun.
We visited Paint Creek in the Cherokee National Forest. I am glad there are so many beautiful parks in the US! Thanks! senekers@comcast.net
Family reunion in Rigby Idaho. I want to say how awesome my Ford Escape Hybrid is for traveling. It has an electrical outlet so the kids can play their games all the way.
It’s been entirely was too long since we took a road trip. Almost 2 years ago, my husband, daughter, and I drove from Missouri, all the way to New Jersey. Ended up driving up to New York, and got to meet TapouT guys. It was fun, I would love to go again!
We did a short trip to California for camping 2 years ago. But really nothing lately.
Entry for 7/14
Our most recent trip involved native cuisine – delicious, but not (shall I say) nutricious… made more than one of us think of Subway!

Our most recent road trip was a trip to the Aquarium in Atlanta. The children had a lot of fun.
We went to watch my husband drive a Nascar at the Poconos! We did all back roads and saw beautiful scenery.
we went sightseeing in dc
Our last ‘road trip’ was for the sad occasion of a funeral of our family friend. However we tried to keep the mood in the car pretty relaxed and happy, a 10 hour drive can be a challenge!
We went on a road trip up to see the relatives. We had a great time, except for when the kids started to get bored and bicker a little, that wasn’t so much fun. But all in all the kids did well, and we enjoyed the trip!
We went to Alpine Village which is about an hour away and a little shopping area that has German stores and a market. So much fun!

our last roadtrip was camping in new hampshire near hampton beach..we had a blast
Our most recent road trip was to Philadelphia and Lancaster County, PA
Our most recent trip was for July 4th, we went to Gulf Shores. It was great once we made it there. The trip there is always hectic with three children. I use a technique my mom used when my sister’s and I were small. They always ask, are we there yet, and I conveniently answer “in 5 minutes”. It works every time, you may have to say it 100 times!
Thank you for the entry,
Nikki
We went to visit relatives that live a couple of hours away.
A simple 2.5 hour journey to the west coast of florida for a sunny birthday party by the beach.
Our most recent family road trip was about a week ago to Natural Bridge, Virginia!
