A Valentine To Me

Well, it’s the time of year I’ve been dreading…not Valentine’s or Presidents’ Day…my birthday. I am officially, an “old, married broad gal.”

Well, as the life-long ponderer that I am, it’s my job to take this weekend to reflect on my life.

The question I raise to myself is (always) What have I learned during all of my years on this planet?

I have two days to come up with some of the more profound findings…but for now, I’d like to give myself a little Valentine’s gift by re-counting the lighter notions of my several-decade existence on this planet.

Here’s what I know, I know:

  • I’ve learned to read and understand my body: I listen to what it tells me to eat to keep myself balanced.
  • I have vastly improved my style of dress: thanks to Sex and the City.
  • It has taken more than 40 years, but I’ve learned how to correctly blow dry my hair.
  • I have taught myself to cook: because without cooking as a form of therapy, I would have jumped off a bridge by now.
  • I learned what it takes to start a business — (see jump off bridge reference).
  • I think I understand what makes men tick: (not too much, as long as you don’t catch them at something).
  • I taught myself how to train my dog and oddly, it was through communication, not food — hear that guys?
  • I have a deeper love of my marriage and respect for my husband by not worrying about what the heck makes men tick.
  • I’ve begun to learn what my favorite things are…which started with a bite of a glorious piece of cold fried chicken — which by, the way, led to my learning that I could never last on a carb-free diet.

And I’ve learned the most significant thing…there’s a hell of a lot more to learn.

Happy Valentine’s day everyone.
