On the first Friday night in September will happen a live, joint telethon benefiting cancer research from the networks ABC CBS and NBC.
From The New York Times:
Among those who encouraged the networks to put aside their competitive instincts, albeit temporarily, was Katie Couric, anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” who will appear on the fund-raiser alongside her principal rivals, Brian Williams of NBC and Charles Gibson of ABC.
All three have had immediate family members die of the disease, and another principal, Jeff Zucker, the president and chief executive of NBC and Ms. Couric’s former boss, is a colon cancer survivor.
The said benefit is being called Stand Up To Cancer.

I think that is absolutely fantastic. September is even Childhood Cancer awareness month. My oldest son had cancer. We need to take a stand to make people more aware. I will defiantly pass on the news to all that we are connected with.

Congradulations for a wonerful show tonight. I’m a survivor of Brain cancer since Oct. of 1998. I have fought with positive mind through this disease and I have been truly blessed to survive this long. I will be going in for another deep scan on a tumor that is developing in my kidney/adrenal gland area and I guess being such a long term survivor has hardened me to the disease and whatever is the outcome, will just be another journey that I will fight and survive. I’m a long term (1985) survivor of aids and the journey of that dredful disease helped me deal with a positive outlook to concer!
