In the world of pain, E can stand for:
Endometriosis: Endometriosis is a painful disorder. The tissue similar to what is inside the uterus makes its way to other parts of the body, causing cramping and pain, especially around the time of menstruation.
Epidural: When many people hear the word “epidural,” they often think of a woman in labor as epidurals are commonly used to help manage the labor and delivery pain. But epidurals are used for many other procedures as well, for both men and women. By having an epidural for surgery below the waist, you avoid all the risks of general anesthetic (being put to sleep), recover is usually faster, and the hospital stays are usually shorter, if at all. Here are some links for you:
Ear infections: While ear infections, usually otitis media or infection in the middle ear, are usually associated with children, adults can get them too. Ear infections can be very painful and if young children have them, they can’t always tell you what is wrong. Here are a few links:
Edema: Edema means accumulation of fluid in a particular area. If you have swelling in your feet because you have high blood pressure and should be taking diuretics or water pills, the swelling is caused by edema. Edema can range from being annoying to being life threatening if the fluid is causing pressure on vital organs, like the heart and lungs.
