And of course, M is for mom, as well as:
Membranes: The amniotic sac, where the fetus lives during gestations, is made up of membranes called the amnion and chorion.
Midwife: A midwife is, in the US and Canada, a nurse with advanced training and specialization in caring for pregnant women and delivering their babies.
Miscarriage: Although it’s very upsetting to some women, in “medical-ese”, a miscarriage is called a spontaneous abortion. This is the loss of a pregnancy before the fetus can survive outside the uterus; most common in the first trimester.
Morning sickness: Perhaps the name is a sick joke for many since morning sickness, nausea and vomiting that usually occurring during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, can really be felt all day long.
Mucus plug: The mucus plug is made by your body to fit in the cervix to seals it during the pregnancy. It falls out as the cervix begins to dilate. If there’s blood, it’s called “bloody show.”
