Kinsanity was started by one writer (Lara) but is now written by another, Shawnee Rivers, who thought it might make meaningful the plethora of kinsanity she’s already experienced (and continues to experience).

If Shawnee had to write an “about” page, she would refer to herself in the third person — primarily because Shawnee Rivers is not the name on her driver’s license and she’s still not used to it. She christened herself with a new name not only for anonymity but because the blog name, Kinsanity, was very fitting but still a new concept and she thought she ought to have a new name herself to with it.

Prior to learning there was such a thing as kinsanity, Shawnee just thought she was de-raveling, which she describes thus:

Approaching my life like loose bundles of yarn, following one thread, pulling out the knots & sorting each strand…

Socrates said, “An unexamined life is not worth living”; but wasn’t he arguably, if not actually, insane?

Living the examined life is crazy-making. Doing harm or good? Making progress or further f-ing it up? Am I detangling or unraveling? Or is it untangling? Deraveling?

Learning of kinsanity, Shawnee knew that she couldn’t just (however tempting it was) blame family for but she does now have new threads to pull and tug at.

Some might consider writing Kinsanity a cheaper alternative to counseling (it is) or a way for Shawnee to finally get that book written (an especially good idea now that all agents have turned down her scripts & TV pitches); Shawnee just calls it blogging.

Oh yeah, it’s all censored for anonymity. Because if you were related to this, wouldn’t you want it anonymous?
