About Metastatic Lung Cancer

Over the weekend, a very dear, old friend of mine have been diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer. It was a shock. I am still in shock for I never imagined somebody this close to me will hear of any cancer in the first degree.
Metastasized lung cancer is an advanced form of cancer which in most cases is a sign that it has spread into the bloodstream.
Usually cancer will be present even in places not seen by CT scans.
In these circumstances, removing the visible tumors by surgery is usually not beneficial. Chemotherapy is usually the treatment of choice.
Cure is unlikely in most cases.
It breaks my heart even writing this, but metastatic lung cancer is generally seen as an incurable disease. If it’s any consolation, new treatments may put the patient’s cancer in remission and give her/him a good quality of life for a prolonged period of time.
I have no complete details of my friend’s condition yet as to the how and the why that led to her diagnosis. Her doctors still haven’t located the original location of her cancer before it metastized to her lungs.
Honestly, I got scared. Scared, hugely terriried, enough not to light another cigarette stick. It has been 3 days and my friend is still undergoing different scans to locate the cancer’s origin and scheduled for her first chemo on Thursday.

*BIG HUG* Lots of get well wishes to your friend.
And I’m so glad you’ve decided to quit smoking, Gloria!!
