zoo-bio-pic.jpegIf you’d like a little personal info about this person coming at you with daily posts at Lively Women, you’ve happened upon just the right place.

I live with my husband Michael and frisky cat Choco.

So, why in the world would I chose to blog about women’s health?

I’ve always possessed a strong curiosity about health and medicine that borders on the hypochondriac side of things. Don’t worry though, I’m not one. However, I enjoy learning about symptoms, side effects, new treatments, breakthrough research and all that good stuff. I even participated in a research study once. See, I’m brave too.

I’m a firm believer that our bodies try to warn us when things aren’t quite right. We just don’t always know how to listen, but with education, our hearing suddenly improves. I also believe in the power of exercise and positive thinking.

Where am I coming from?

I don’t normally talk about degrees in the blogging world, but in this case, I think it might be a little helpful if you’re trying to figure out my perspective on things. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and English. I was one of those double major people. I’m nowhere near being a psychologist, but I do have a great curiosity about the human mind and how our habits affect our health.

What about my personal health?

Wow. I never thought I’d talk about this stuff online, but again, I think it will help you understand me a little better. I was diagnosed with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) when I was 23. It’s basically under control with meds, but I can’t consume things like alcohol and spicy foods. I also have to watch the chocolate and caffeine intake. I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis when I was 28. Yeah, that’s a little late in the game, so I know all about adhesions. I had three surgeries for endo and now I take some meds as well. Again, basically under control. Whenever I go to the doctor I’m always told I’m healthy. I only have to put up with some annoying chronic diseases that won’t kill me. (I’m not complaining.)

Where else do I blog?

You’ll find me over at Junk Creation (a blog about creative reuse). I also have a personal blog about living the green life: Light Green Stairs. You may contact me at peggy.rowland (at) b5media.com

Now, please tell me about you!

I had to stop by your new blog and say hi, and wish you good luck:) I have horrible skin, so I can’t wait to read any skin care tips you might have!

  2. Diane Penna says:

Welcome, Peggy! I loved your introduction, and hope you don’t mind if I take a “page from your book.” Like you, I also have a strong interest in health because of my own personal health experiences and journey. I always used books (and now the internet) to look up symptoms and signs of things I was sure I was suffering from. Now I use this research skill to be a better patient, listening to my body and trusting it, and making sure I have a doctor who trusts me enough to believe in me. I have a feeling I’m really going to enjoy your reads! :)

Linette, thanks for visiting. Yeah, I didn’t go into the skin thing in my intro, but I have experience in that realm too! : ) I’m liking Aveda lotion right now.

Diane, thank you. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your new b5 blog. Welcome to the network!

  4. Jennifer says:

Well, the new colors look amazing. And I love that adorable picture of you and the not so real animals. I have nice skin, but I think you should discuss how to manage crazy curls! Oh, wait, is that a vanity not health thing? In any case, hope you like it here, I’ll be stopping by to make sure (obviously).

Great to see you here, good luck! By the way The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the most beatiful places in Chicago…and free. We go there at least once a month.

Thanks Jennifer. That photo was one of the few of me from vacation that I didn’t hate! And, by the way, I still haven’t figured out how to tame my wavy hair either.

Noel, thank you. I agree about the Lincoln Park Zoo. I was amazed, especially since primates are my favorites. I would go there once a month too if I didn’t live so far away.
