Accountability for What I Eat

I have been working pretty hard lately, on trying to improve my energy by living right (something that everyone needs to work on, whether they suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or not). This includes actual daily exercise, and trying to eat healthier. So as a way to stay on track, I am going to publish the entire contents of my refrigerator/freezer on this blog – and let you all critique it. It’s not perfect. But I don’t think it’s too bad. Perhaps I rely too heavily on frozen fruits and vegetables instead of fresh ones. But at least I am eating them.
The Freezer
- Smirnoff Cranberry Vodka (yea the cheap stuff – but it makes really good Wowie-Bzowy Martinis)
- Chopped up sweet potato
- Prawns
- Applesauce – made by my grandfather – it’s the best applesauce out there
- Turkey soup
- Parmesan Cheese
- 15 Grain Bread
- Ice Cubes – of course!
- Cranberries – the garnish for the wowie bzowy martini
- Edamame
- Japanese Vegetable mix
- Blueberries
- Frozen Fruit mix – mangoes, strawberries, peaches
- Italian Vegetable mix
- Sundried Tomatoes
- Olives
- Yogurt – singles – banana is my favorite
On the Second Shelf
- Lite Sour Cream
- Whole Wheat Tortillas
Meat Drawer
- Meatballs
- Sliced Turkey
Bottom Shelf
- Happy Planet Smoothie
- Blackberry Yogurt
- Lactaid 2% milk
- Tonic Water
- Baby Spinach
Veggie Drawer
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- Celery
- Squash
Fruit Drawer (there is more fruit in the fruit bowl on my kitchen table)
The Door (this is where the trouble lies) Cheese Tray
- Laughing Cow Cheese
- Lite Cream Cheese
- Oka Cheese – I don’t actually know what this tastes like yet – I just really liked the name.
Shelf 1
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Sweet Chili Sauce
- Yellow Mustard
- Renata’s Sald Dressing – wish she would give me the recipe
- Water
- Packets of japanese soy sauce
- Capers
2nd Shelf
- Apple Sauce – grandpa’s
- Spicy Orange Dressing
- Raspberry Vinaigrette
- Peach, Ginger, and Pansy Compote – I know it sounds odd – but its sooo yummy
- Hamburger relish
- Orange Ginger Sauce
- Pomegranate and Pear Dressing
- Lime juice
3rd Shelf
- Green Tea Vodka Drink – Its disgusting, I don’t know why I still have it
- Stawberry Jam
- Olives
- Black Cherry Jam
- Boysenberry Preserves
- Ketchup
OK there is the entire contents of my fridge/freezer. Feel free to pick away at it. Of course it needs some tweaking. The door can be better organized. I have way too many jams (I don’t even use them – they are from several long ago tea parties). And of course, it feels really empty. My pantry is another matter. It’s small, but I seem to pack a lot of stuff into it, especially tea and coffee. But will save that one for sometime next week. Please make some suggestions on how I can improve my provisions.I got this idea, from a really great website called Kath Eats Real Food, and I saw a few similarities, which is why I chose to put mine out there, for all of you to see. One thing that this exercise taught me, is that I really need to do a big clean in that fridge, I found some weird brownish liquid that spilled all over the bottom of it. So now I am off to clean it all up.

Sorry, can’t critique, my brain is filled up with *wow – so clean! so neat! so bare!* and *we could really use a shelf in our freezer…*
The only things that I saw “not good” on your lists were because they weren’t good for us – nothing to do with your health
. We do tend to do a lot more fresh veggies, but since cooking is my #1 energy sucker, we might be going to the frozen section far more often. Gotta get the balance right!
Jenna,
perhaps I should have taken a picture of the big pile of brown goo that was in the bottom of my fridge. No idea what it was – or how it got there. But it took forever to clean up.
Cooking is a big energy sucker for me -which is why I rely so much of frozen foods (good for me ones). Fresh would be better – but especially in winter, when there is a lot less light – I have a lot less patience, when it comes to chopping things up.
