HBO is planning a biopic of autistic author and animal expert Temple Grandin starring……….Claire Danes, Reuters reports, who would follow in the footsteps of Sigourney Weaver (Snowcake) and Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man) in playing an autistic character. The movie has been nine years in the making. My so-called autistic life?

Should I get the chance to see this biopic, I will watch closely the actress’s face and particularly the eyes to see how well she is playing Temple Grandin. I had the chance to see her in person about four and half years ago, and she definitely presented in a way consistent with having autism. It was great that she was able to make a good living using her strengths and abilities, but I would not want the travel schedule she has kept. When I saw her, there were about 1300 people in attendance, but I made it a point to get a little “face time” with her. From what I could tell, the vast majority of the people there were “parents and professionals”. I was there ostensibly as an interested citizen, but also looking to see if others could see whether or not I had autism. As I don’t have a television, it’s not likely I will get to see this. Not since Rain Main has there been a really big movie featuring autism. Dave
