Adoption Shower Themes

Traditional baby showers feature baby decorations but not all parents adopt babies and not all parents adopt children from the United States. A shower is simply the chance for your family and friends to share your joy and to help you get started in this new phase of your life.

So, why not keep it simple? Ask family and friends to have a party instead of a shower. Invite husbands and children to share in your happiness? Have a barbecue or a pizza party, share ethnic foods like borscht or kitfo. Or, just for kicks…have a shower at the local roller rink. It will certainly get people talking!

Additionally, ask if you can help your host decorate for the party, especially if you are adopting internationally. When a neighbor friend threw a shower for us I found small Matroyska pins that she made into table favors. (If you are adopting domestically consider using the state as the theme…Babies from Nevada gamble, right?)
