Akavar 20/50 – Lose Weight, Without Dieting?

Looks like a pill manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah, is claiming to help you lose weight while you eat as much as you want. The weight-loss pills are called Akavar 20/50 and contain a blend of yerba mate, guarana and damiana – 3 herbs that were shown to produce a weight loss of 11 pounds in 45 days for those taking them (This was back in 2001). (Science Daily)
I recognize yerba mate and guarana – but damiana is something new to me. I looked into it a bit and found that it’s an herb native to South and Central America – and is used to treat everything from depression to coughing to PMS.
Unless it’s somehow proven that this is a miracle drug, I’ll stick to whole foods, thank you.
Has anyone tried these pills? What was your experience?

I live in Argentina, where Yerba Mate is taken as an infusion every day – called “Mate” (it is used also in Chile and Uruguay, but as much). Just a few argentinean persons don’t drink this – believe me, Mate is like our official drink or something like that.
Great blog.
It doesn’t have any weight loss quality. Maybe diuretic and laxative if you drink it a LOT.
But, it’s useful to calm down hunger when you’re on a diet.
Bear my english please
Paula.
Wow, that’s interesting! Does it have a particular taste to it?
Here in the States Citrimax is often added to drinks to curb hunger. I think it works
I found their official website the other day. I’m thinking about trying it, I’ve heard a lot of positive buzz.
Cool, be sure to come back and let us know how it works for you!
A friend of mine took it & lost 60 lbs. She said her mother lost about the same weight in less than a 6 month period. I finally asked her how. She pulled me into the kitchen & showed me like 8 bottles of Akavar. I figure if it works, there has to be something wrong with it but at this point, anything is healthier than obesity.
