Jenna,

I also use the ringing/singing bowl sound alarm. I have it on my computer. It allows me to just stop - and acts as a reminder to be present.

Works wonders.

I agree - about the politeness of the alarm. The least intrusive is best - if it works :)

This got me thinking - although I don't use anything to wake me up, I use "alarms" all day to keep me on track. My Palm is my best friend ;). I've got a freeware program on it called PocketDoan, which was meant to be a meditation aid (you set up a series of time intervals and say what kind of tone signals the end of each one). I use it as a simpler way to keep me from getting sucked into any one thing and forgetting the rest of life, without cluttering up my Date Book - and the "alarms" can be the Tibetan ringing-bowl sounds, or flute note, or other more pleasing sounds than jarring alarms. My Date Book scheduler does the major day divisions like starting "Work", or dinner prep, or remind me to eat lunch ;).

So some alarms are very, very helpful - but only if they are polite!

Alicia,

it wouldn't last too long in my house either. Especially if you can't turn it off without putting the pieces in correctly.

Although I bet its battery operated, and that might be one solution - however it defeats the purpose
