Girls and boys will both enjoy Alex and the Ironic Gentleman by my fellow AbsoluteWrite.com member, Adrienne Kress. It’s intended to be a middle grade book for readers in grades 8-12, but adults are giving it a thumbs up, too, not unlike adult fans of the Lemony Snicket and Artemis Fowl series.
Alex and the Ironic Gentleman tells the story of a female orphan, Alex, who lives with her uncle and is preparing to enter the sixth grade. When her teacher is replaced by a man who ends up being a decendant of a famous pirate, the adventure begins. Alex sets off to find the missing pirate treasure ultimately ending up on the pirate ship The Ironic Gentleman. Her journey is both suspenseful and amusing, and children are bound to become engrossed in the tale.
