Allergy Luxe Bed Bug barrier bedding – product review

Did you know that bed bugs are tiny insects living that feed off human blood? UGH. They bite our skin and cause a small swollen welt and inflammation at the bite location. Their favorite hiding places are the pillows, bed frame, mattres and box spring, but clutter around the room give the bugs plenty of other spaces to live in. How does one get rid of bugs? Harvard University says you need a definite plan of attack.
London Luxury approached me about a new collection of bed bug barrier beddings and asked me to try them. I was sent the Allergy Luxe Premium Bed Bug Barrier Pillow protector (standard), and the Allergy Luxe Premium Allergen Barrier travel pillow. Here’s what London Luxury says about its product:
In response to this growing problem Bed Bath & Beyond has just unveiled its Allergy Luxe® Premium Bed Bug Barrier bedding collection – scientifically designed to help protect against bed bugs.
Available at BedBathandBeyond.com as well at Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationally the new product line includes soft and luxurious, ultra-hygienic mattress and pillow protectors designed to help prevent bed bug infestations. With its reinforced seams and micro-zipper technology, the products ensure the most secure encasement and protection of any such products available at retail.
London Luxury’s asthma & allergy friendly™ bedding products are among the first in the United States to receive the certification from AAFA and are uniquely engineered to function as an effective and proven barrier to dust mite, pet dander and other allergens, while still maintaining the highest levels of comfort and luxuriousness that consumers expect from top-of-the-line bedding. The secret is in the engineering and construction
What I saw:
- The fabric of the pillow cover and travel pillow are very densely-woven and has a plastic-like “skin” on the wrong side of the fabric. If you have bed bugs or dust mites inside the mattress or pillow, this impenetrable/ non-breathable fabric would be the secret to preventing bed bugs from crawling out of them onto your skin.
- I thought that the pillow cover would be too warm on my neck, since it has that protective plastic-like barrier. Surprisingly, I was wrong. But it’s certainly not cotton, which is cooler to the skin and breathable.
- I also that with the waterproof fabric, my pillows get extra protection from fluids and spills.
- The fabrics were soft and feels very luxurious. There was no thread count given but it felt softer than at least 400 tc, compared to what my other 400 tc beddings feel like.
- The pillows are machine-washable. I was specially pleased that the travel pillow retained its shape after several loads to the washer. (You know how pillows “crumble” after washing).
- The pillow cover washes well in very hot water, a necessity for allergy-protection to kill dust mites. I figured it needs to be washed right side up, so that the plastic barrier remains intact.
- It has a lifetime warranty, which is a bonus especially with pillows. Of course, I can’t test the warranty as my review didn’t include that.
The Allergy Luxe® Premium Bed Bug Barrier bedding collection is only sold at Bed, Bath and Beyond and could retail from $19.99 to $119.99. London Luxury also has other bedding and bath collection that are certified asthma & allergy friendly™ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA). The bed bug barrier pillow is not certified, and there was no mention that the travel pillow has the certification, although it has a “Physician-recommended” seal on its packaging.

My son needs one this air purifier really bad allergies.
I recently bought Allergy Luxe pillows and pillow covers. My husband and I are allergic to dust mites, but your pillow covers talk more about bed bug infestation which are not the same as dust mites. Does your covers take care of dust mites as well?
Why don’t they offer a box spring encasement to protect the box spring from bed bugs? Protecting the mattress alone is a job half done. Bed bugs can easily hide in the box spring. I know that Protect A Bed makes both mattress and box spring encasements. I think that Allergy Luxe ought to offer both items.
