Almost time to hunker down

Canada is well known for its chilly winters. It’s not a myth or a stereotype, it’s the truth. Our winters can indeed be brutal. I’m not a fan of the cold and unfortunately, my oldest daughter hasn’t met a temperature too cold yet. She would be perfectly happy to play in the snow all day every day – and I’m hoping that school will help with that since they’ll be outside at recess and lunch, because I honestly don’t care for being outside in three feet of snow. My youngest was fascinated by the white stuff but hated having to walk in it. I may hide out inside for most of the season.

And that’s why today was a great day. It was pretty cold this morning, just a few degrees above freezing when I dropped my daughter at school, but when I picked her up, it was sunny and fairly warm and absolutley gorgeous. I brought her home, gave her a quick snack and got her to change out of her school clothes. Then we headed to the park and spent an hour and a half there. They went on the swings, the slides, dug in the dirt, and ran everywhere, exhausting themselves (and me).

I didn’t get much done this afternoon. I had work to do and things to clean, but you know what? Spending what could be one of the last of a handful of nice autumn days outside with my girls was totally worth the slacking off.

What weather do you dislike? Are you a winter person or a warm weather person? I strongly dislike both the dead of winter and the humid days of summer. I’m a spring and fall girl myself.
