Alton Brown and Miller Lite

It was disturbing just writing the title. As I walked last week through my grocery store, I walked past a display that caught my eye and disturbed me to the very core of my existence. I gasped, stumbled then attempted to regroup only to open my eyes to the upsetting truth in front of me…Alton Brown endorsing Miller Lite!!
Alton Brown is a widely known celebrity chef and author of three award-wining cookbooks. Just in time for the holidays, he’s teamed up with the award-winning taste of Miller Lite to give you his favorite holiday recipes. Each one has been carefully selected based on taste and ease of preparation, as well as flavor compatibility with Miller Lite.
Compatibility with Miller Lite???!!!! Alton there is a time when those who care must reach out to you and say, “What were you thinking???” Recipes that have flavor compatibility with Miller Lite??? Does that mean the recipes have no flavor or that the recipes make you forget that you are drinking crappy beer??!!!????
I personally enjoy being able to taste my beer. Many in the community are aghast, just check-out the discussion over at realbeer.com.
There is no mention of it on his website, would you remind the masses that everyone has a price? Alton we love you, but do you really consider Miller Lite Good Eats???

I love that commercial. It’s so true that most of the biggest American brewers have crappy, tasteless, beer.
The ironic thing is that I think that the brewer that does those commercials is an equally crappy big America brewer.
I was horrified when I saw that awful display at the local market with Alton Brown holding a Miller lite. The whole Tyler Florence/Applebee’s demon seed didn’t seem to bother me, as Tyler’s air time on Food network keeps getting shorter and shorter. But, Mr.Brown!!! For shame… I had just heard Mr. Brown go on and on during an NPR interview on how to make egg nog that he would never use preground nutmeg. Even if he was on stranded on an island and that was the only nutmeg he had to use. But he’ll lower his standards for this product???? Must have received a huge amount to support such a inferior product. This is definitely not good eats! Before you know it, dreamy bad boy Anthony Bourdain will become the executive chef for TGIFridays!! That will mean that the seventh seal has been broken.
The ironic thing is that I wonder if the people who drink Miller Light would even know who Alton Brown is? Seems like his fans (such as myself) would be more likely to order a pint of a microbrew.

Hey, I’m an avid homebrewer of fine ales, lagers, etc. Right now I have a Dogfish Head IPA copy going…but I must say – Miller Lite is fantastic beer. I love hops, barley and the rest but I’m not interested in the “beer snob’s gut” either. Miller Lite is crisp, clean and excellent with food. I can see Alton’s point in the pairing. Hoppy, big beers don’t compliment food like a good light lager. Miller has it covered. Tastes great, less filling.
