Alzheimer’s Comments at Cathy’s Rants & Ramblin’s

Cathy, in her blog at “Cathy’s Rants and Ramblin’s” (http://arthritisrants.blogspot.com/2006/09/alzheimers-and-gastrostomy-tube.html ), expressed her views after reading my blog concerning this topic of feeding by means of a gastrostomy tube in the stomach.  She has some good points to make and urges everyone to think about what would happen if a family member had to make this decision about them.

She mentions that just thinking or expressing her desires is not enough.  She needs to have it documented.

I’m pleased my post has encouraged others to consider this topic of feeding through a gastrostomy tube when the patient can no longer swallow, a condition that is common in Alzheimer’s, as I found with my aunt.  Think about what you would want done for yourself or a family member.
