American Girl Real Girl of the Year Awards

American Girl dolls are one of the hottest items in the tween girl market – trust me, we have 6 of the dolls living in our house. One of the things I like most about the entire doll line is the generally wholesome approach the dolls and their stories take. The whole historical line of dolls have living history lessons that go along with them – my daughter knows a lot about the Great Depression and Colonial Times thanks to the American Girl book series and it makes the topics more relevant when she learns about them at school too. But I digress.

Each year American Girl releases a limited edition doll called the Girl of the Year – this year her name is Nicki Fleming. In addition to the doll being released, American Girl put out a call for entries into their Real Girl of the Year contest. They received over 14,000 entries from girls all across the country.

Out of all the entries, American Girl selected three girls who shared amazing stories of compassion and care for their community. Additionally, all 20 finalists are featured at the American Girl site. On June 29, all three American Girl Place locations (NYC, LA, and Chicago) will have special events in store specifically for the award.
