Location: Below the Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory
Destination: Spanning the Penobscot River, across from Bucksport, Maine
Country: United States
Year Taken: October 2008
Photographer: Jackie Dishner
Blog: The Phoenix Traveler
Taken during a visit to Maine, Jackie toured this new 2,120 feet (646 m) cable bridge, which opened in 2007. It replaced the old Waldo-Hancock bridge, which can still be seen on the left, next to the new bridge. The tour included the 420-foot-tall observatory, the tallest public bridge-observatory in the world.
Accessible from Fort Knox State Park (not the same Fort Knox as the U.S. Bullion Depository in Kentucky), the observatory is the only one of its kind in the United States. __________________________________________________
