An Artful Complaint

Today I had one of those incidents where I could’ve just walked away, but decided that I needed to make a complaint. The details don’t really matter. In the long run I was pleased with the way I handled myself. I was able to distill the problem to its essence, express my view clearly, point out what was at fault and know I did it all without losing my temper, and kept a graceful aplomb. I have journal writing to thank for all that.
There was a time, several years ago, where I would not have behaved anything like I did today. I would have either allowed anger to get the better of me, or give up feeling my voice wasn’t worth hearing. Journal writing has cured me of my lack of confidence, helped me keep my cool when feeling angry, taught me how to reason in an argument and how to make pithy observations that describe the situation accurately. All that through spending twenty minutes to half an hour writing my thoughts and feelings in my journal each day. I feel it’s been a pretty good deal.
How about you? What do you give journal writing credit for in your life? Please share in the comments section below.
