An Artist? Earn Extra Money in Second Life

I really liked this story about artists (musicians, painters, writers) who are earning money in Second Life. In a way, Second Life has become a new arena to gain fans and even earn some bucks from your creative endeavors. I guess it makes sense. After all, the Web has changed the world of publishing and music drastically. Artists and writers can more easily get their works into the hands of people who may be interested by publishing their own books and producing their own music.

Apparently, there are even “600 visual art galleries” in Second Life. I find this number mindboggling! This whole subject has raised several questions in my mind. Namely:
If you’re an artist, do you spend your time promoting yourself in the virtual world? Or do you focus on the real world? At what point do you draw the line between fantasy and reality? And finally, if you have fans in the virtual world, does that mean you are a success as an artist?

Don’t forget to mention the illegal gambling that Linden Lab allows to take place in Second Life.
