Kiehl’s was opened in 1851, on Third Avenue, in New York’s East Village, as a family-run, old-world neighborhood pharmacy and apothecary.  The owners never advertised their store or the simple products they sell, relying on word of mouth from customer to customer.

Almost 150 years later, the store’s concept has evolved into a modern boutique focusing on hair and skin care, but the level of personal customer service remains high.

Many of their products use the same botanical-based formulations since first offered.  The store has recently become very fashionable with the celebrity set, often resulting in long lines on weekends.
