And The A.S.S Award Goes To…TMZ.com

OK, OK, I admit it. TMZ.com is one of my guilty pleasures a site I sometimes visit. I only go there is search of Wentworth Miller pictures and Wenti-related news. Seriously. That’s all.

I love him.

So, anyway, yesterday TMZ.com posts Are Dairy and Meat Making Brit Split? (While I haven’t discussed Britney Spears or her mental health here at Mental Health Notes, but for a nod in the direction of a NAMI Stigma Buster Alert, I still live in America and have TV, radio, and Internet access, i.e. I know what’s going on.)

Being a PETA supporter (for the most part) and a vegetarian, I was compelled to read the entire post (rather than just skimming through it) when I saw the PETA logo stamped on it.

Being passionate about fighting the stigma attached to mental illness, I was compelled to comment.

Below is the post. My thoughts follow in bold.

Are Dairy and Meat Making Brit Split? (“Making Brit Split?” What is that? An asinine attempt at being clever? A rhyming play on words of sorts? Split…is that a reference to her supposed bipolar disorder? Someone failed Creativity 101.)

All of poor Brit Brit’s Starbucks runs and ice cream socials may be worsening her “condition,” y’all. (Not only are you making fun of a fellow human being who may be suffering from a medical condition – a *tsk tsk* worthy action by itself – but you’re also using quotations around the word “condition” <– see? Here, let me welcome you to 2008, an era in which those of us with brains recognize mental health issues as actual medical issues and not situations to be ridiculed and further stigmatized. You wouldn’t put “diabetes,” “cancer,” or “heart disease” in quotations, would you? Didn’t think so.)

According to a letter just sent to Britney’s parents by PETA, studies show that people with hidden dairy sensitivities (a very common condition) can worsen cases of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. (Very interesting. Would’ve been even more interesting if someone hadn’t also failed How-To-Write-Sentences-That-Make-Sense 101. Seriously. Read that sentence again.) PETA also cites evidence linking parasites found in undercooked meats to the development of schizophrenia. Crazy from burgers? (No, not crazy from burgers. Risk of developing schizophrenia from parasites in undercooked meat. Next time, forgo what you think are witty synonyms and opt for citing the organization’s actual words.)

Luckily for Britney, says PETA, instead of meat, the consumption of beans can help improve such conditions, with the exclusion of uncontrollable farting. You are what you eat … don’t be a mad cow. (Farts and mad cow – thanks for the additional back-to-back evidence, but like I stated above, “Making Brit Split” already confirmed your Creativity 101 failure.)

And the girl does love her some Taco Bell.

Congratulations, TMZ.com. You’ve just become the very first winner of Mental Health Notes’ Abusive Supporter of Stigma Award.

Guess that makes you an A.S.S.

I love you! Intelligent response to an idiotic article. TMZ is just a celebrity parasite, not a news outlet. Too bad so many people believe these types of sites are legit.

  2. Haha, I love you too genpop40 – and I love your name!

Yes, sadly, in today’s society, seeing something on TV or online, or hearing about it on the radio, makes it “real.” I’m pretty sure if TMZ.com (and every other such site and TV show) would post actual intelligent information about bipolar disorder and other mental health issues (in regards to all these celebrities who may or may not have them), the country would be genuinely rooting for recovery rather than turning them into jokes. It’s sad. :(

You rock!!!! I love your comments and they are soooo true. So many have their head up their ass! Sorry for the no no word but it is true…

  4. Glad you enjoyed Kendra :) Even more “head up your ass moments” are in the comments of TMZ’s actual post. My jaw just kept dropping when I read what people said.

  5. Pistol Pete says:

Just what is this A.S.S. award and how do I go about nominating myself?

  6. Haha, the A.S.S. Award is short for the “Abusive Supporter of Stigma Award,” and while you and I seem to share a similar sense of humor when it comes to mental health (I discovered your blog when you commented), something tells me you don’t want to cross the line from taking the edge off with some chuckles to being labeled as an abusive supporter of stigma – at least, I hope not! :)

Lovely post. I like your pencraft and that

Your blog is getting better and better! Previous posts were good, but this one is just FABULOUS.
