And the drowning prevention DVD goes to….

On June 2nd, I posted a piece on drowning and how high the numbers are for our children dying from drowning or becoming permanently disabled because of near-drowning (Prevent drownings (plus a DVD give-away)).

Although this is a pregnancy blog, I believe that there are certain things that need to be discussed outside of pregnancy, such as early infant care and safety issues of young children. This is terribly important to me for a few reasons. The first, and most obvious, is that you can never begin thinking too early about safety. It’s a terrible thing to lose a child, it’s even worse when it is something that could normally be preventable. The long-lasting effects can touch so many lives. Second, many women who are pregnant already have young children at home and if I can help offer some advice or information to help them care for their whole family, not just the little one growing in her uterus, than I think I should.

So, there you have it – that’s why I stray sometimes from the actual topic of pregnancy.

And now, I sure wish I’d had  a copy of the DVD Is Your Child’s Life Worth Ten Minutes? to give to everyone who wrote in. You all touched me so even if you don’t win, I do hope that you follow up on the safety advice and perhaps even get your own DVD.
